The
trip started on October 22 for most some of us, and on October
21 for others. Tom Ward brought all the ranch guys
down on the 21st to get an early start. We drove down
Friday afternoon, nice long 3-4 hour drive stopping for
food & insurance. We arrived late Friday evening
and kinda scoped out what was goin on and prepared to sleep.
I pitched my cot in the back of a pickup, where most stayed
inside the dorms. I didn't want to listen to snoring
all night or wear ear plugs. Saturday morning, I'm
awoken by Tom Ward wanting me to recite Proverbs 23, I tossed
him my Bible and wanted to go back to sleep. It turned
out I missed our devotions and was about to miss breakfast
from oversleeping. Got up and had a nice home cooked
breakfast, got changed up and then went off to start my
work. I started the day by sanding down a water heater
that was covered in rust and then cleaning it off and primering
then painting it. After that was finished, I helped
out with a bunch of painting and also some grouting of tile,
and even some computer work. Other tasks that were
going on were painting everything, lots and lots of painting,
tiling, grouting, cleaning, plumbing, electrical, framing,
and more. We worked most of the day on Saturday, then
some of us broke off to go setup at the church for the outreach.
I left with that group to help setup the audio visual while
some went around the community to invite folk to come out
for the evening. We setup an outside projection screen
to show the Passion of the Christ for the adults and some
children videos for the kids inside. We showed 1/2
of the Passion of the Christ and then fed everyone and had
some coloring and other fun for the kids. Then we
headed back to the bunks for the evening. Sunday morning
we got up early and broke off into 3 groups to head to 3
different churches. Those of us who headed out last
had some chores and cleanup to take care of at the
bunks. The group I was with went back to the same
church we were at the night before and we showed the rest
of the Passion of the Christ for the adults and some kids
coloring and fun for the lil ones. After church was
over we went to the Dulceria (Candy Store) for some Mexican
candy. I purchased 2 grocery bags worth for my brothers.
Then it was back to the bunks to clean up and go home.
On the drive out we stopped for some delicious tacos and
more. I limited myself to 6 tacos this time, when
on the way home, I wasn't happy I did that, I was still
hungry. In the line out of the border, I purchased
another cowboy hat and Jodi got an actual piggy bank in
the shape of a pig. All in all, it was a very awesome
trip with lots of work & fun, and many many blessings.
