Project LA. A different experience. Normally most of the trips I do are out of the country, but I got to realizing, people at home need Jesus also, so, when this trip arose, I jumped at the opportunity to help others out in our "area". We weren't told hardly anything about the trip. I went with an open heart and mind ready to do anything and everything, not knowing what to expect. We met at Desert Chapel approx 5:30, by the time our Title man arrived, no names necessary, we left closer to 6:30 or 7 I think. It was better that way, less traffic. We jumped on the road and stopped off in Banning/Beaumont area for some grub. Gotta love the KFC that the old folks tour bus stopped at. We got our grub, and back on the road again. We arrived at World Impact in LA about 9:30pm Friday night. We met our contact, Nicci Piscitelli and unloaded our gear and went into a meeting room where we got to watch a movie called El Norte. We watched the first 2 parts of the movie, reading the subtitles most of the time. We finally hit the hay and attempted to get some shut eye. The girls stayed in the meeting hall, on the hard floor. The guys went over to the gym, where we got to sleep on some nice wrestling mats. I say sleep, but it was more like attempted sleep. The water fountain would kick on about every 10 minutes and it sounded like a tank was crashing through the wall. In the middle of the night, awoken by the police sirens and then the bullhorns yelling at someone. That was a nice soothing noise. It was all good though, I got a much better sleep there than at home. We awoke early the next morning very refreshed, at least the guys did. I went to go jump in the shower, and walked into the room, and was like, yeah right and walked right back out. Thank God I brought swimmin trunks, I dont shower in a room with 50 spickets and no walls between, just one of those things. The other fun thing was the water, you have on and off. I found you dont need soap in water like that, it will just burn all the dirt and diseases off. Dont worry, I used soap anyway. We joined with the girls and had donuts, bagels, yogurt, and genetically altered fruits for breakfast. We then headed off across the street to unload a room that had boxes and boxes of Bibles and moved them across the street to the building we were staying in. The trick was getting them down the stairs, across the street and back up the stairs in that building. The building we were moving over to, the room was about 5' tall, in most areas. Houston could walk around in parts of the room, but in others he lost even more hair to the Sand paper roof. It was fun watching people run around the room low, it was like an illusion. After sweating through 2 pairs of clothes, we headed off to a house where some of the folk that Nicci works with live. There we met, learned more about their organization and what they do, and then broke off into small groups to walk around and do a prayer walk. We got to see some interesting things along the walk and got to pray for some good stuff. I met a guy named Jesus who I got to minister to and he prayed to recieve Jesus in his heart. That was a cool blessing. We walked by the Tropicana, and old strip club out of business that World Impact folk are trying to purchase to have as a Prayer House, so be praying for them that that can happen. We then met back at their house for a short debreifing and got to learn some wack info about the Scientoligy church, which you can read good stuff at http://www.xenu.net. We then took off to an area called South Park where we were cleaning up trash and stuff like that, to bless those that live there. We then took a short walk through South Park and then back to headquarters. The girls wanted showers bad, we guys were like, wheres the deoderant and cologne, and time for a nap. We then took off to Grinders for dinner, not a bad place, kinda like a CoCo's or Dennys. Back to head quarters to finish up El Norte. NIce movie, I'm not much for reading, but it was good. Time to hit the sack. The girls had to sleep in the gym this time, because the room would be full of people in the morning where they were staying that night. We discussed it for quite some time and finally decided we could give up one mat for the girls to share, while we each had our own. They were very appreciative. Johnathan played some worship music for us for a couple hours will our eyes were beat. The next morning, we had some left over breakfast, and were planning on going to a Black Gospel Church, but when we found that the preacher could preach all day, we decided not to, had to be back in PS by certain time. We went to a Spanish/English church that had a Black Preacher who was tearin it up. It was a neat service, the worship and sermon were both english and spanish. We had a blast. We then took off to BouBous for some funky drinks that had tapioca in the bottoms but were either fruit or coffee drinks, very intersting. Then time for the real food over at Togo's. After lunch, it was time to head home for the nice drive. The trip was a blast, I learned a lot about a lot and its always incouraging to see others doing the work of God.
