Costa Rica, Summer 2005. Almost a year away, but we have to be in preparation. Please be praying, starting now, for this trip. Pray that God would put people in place for this trip, that funding would be provided, and that plans would be put in place for everything, that the trip would be very organized as it was in 2004.  Satan starts attacking people very early when planning for these trips to try and stop them, so pray against the devil.  Pray that God would prepare the hearts of the people in Costa Rica for the missionaries going down there to minister to them.  Please pray for me and the church I attend about our participation in this trip.

Here is a letter from Debbie Tietsort, the organizer of Costa Rica Trips with BWO

The time of year is approaching again to begin thinking about what your church will be doing for summer missions. How does partnering with other Calvary/Horizon Chruches from across America in the life changing effort that’s begun in Costa Rica sound? We are referring to the 4th annual Calvary Chapel mission trip to Costa Rica sponsored by Calvary Chapel Capistrano Beach, Horizon of Quepos, Pangea Foundation, and Believers World Outreach.
The following is an overview of what our vision is and what it is that we are doing in Costa Rica. This will give you insight to our heart and desire for the people of Costa Rica as well as the missionaries that participate on this trip.

THE VISION: From a missionary perspective.
The Costa Rica trip is open to all age groups and gives all people an opportunity to take part in reaching out to the nations. It’s great for young people, first time missionaries, as well as seasoned veterans. Each person who attends has the opportunity to pick the area of ministry that best suits them. We realize that everyone may not feel evangelistically gifted but everyone has God-given abilities & talents!
We make the accommodations comfortable so people can minister and give it everything they have during the day and know that they can come back to the hotel, have good meals, an impactful evening worship service (where their pastors/leaders will share in the teaching and ministry), and end each day with a comfortable bed to sleep in.
This trip has four distinct areas of ministry: evangelism & drama, construction & work projects, technical support (helping to set up computer networks to teach the needy valuable job skills), & medical clinics (which require licensed doctors, nurses & EMT’s).

THE MISSION:
The trip begins at a gathering point in L.A. (TBA) and Miami (you pick the departure city) then it’s off to Costa Rica. Once we arrive in Costa Rica the evangelism teams will train for 1 1/2 days at the hotel in San Jose. They will learn everything they need to know to make their efforts effective while the tech, medical, and construction teams start ministry the day after arrival.
In San Jose we will spend a lot of our time working in the Nicaraguan refugee camp of Los Guidos. This camp has approximately 20,000 refugees that moved there to have a better life. This place is absolutely the most poverty stricken area I have ever seen in Costa Rica. The homes are made of plywood, tin, and cardboard. The floors are the mountain dirt that they squatted on. Outside their homes is a sewage river. It is devastating. Still in the midst of this place there is hope. There is a Calvary Chapel missionary involved with an incredible church plant there that we are working along side of. People are coming to the Lord... but there is still much to be done. We will assist them by bringing in our evangelism/drama teams and construction teams. The construction team; will continue to build stairs into the mountain so they can get to the bus stop. We will set up a medical clinic in the church/community center, and offer to bring in technical support in hopes of training these people to give them dignity and confidence. While in San Jose there will also be opportunity for ministry in orphanages, paths, hospitals, and retirement centers.
In Jaco Beach all the different teams will stay busy. This past year we worked along side the Christian Surfers Association. We took part in beach ministry to the locals as well as surfers from all over the world. We will also target a poor barrio area. The barrio, like the refugee camp, is a place of meager existence. We will have a medical clinic here as well. Jaco Beach has no hospital in close proximity. Many people lack proper medical attention. We will assist this barrio by building, cleaning, and bringing in our evangelism teams.
In Quepos- Horizon of Quepos is a church plant we have been working with for two years. We have seen much fruit in this community through beach ministry/outreach, computer centers, and assisting with construction needs to help single moms making their lives a little easier.
From July 6-19th, 2004- This Costa Rica mission trip witnessed approximately 2,000 people raise their hands to accept Jesus.

THE OPPORTUNITY:
July 6-19th, 2005 we are headed back to Costa Rica not only to make a difference there but to allow God to breathe new breath into the people that will attend the trip... To give them an opportunity to look beyond themselves, to be changed, molded, and stretched.

How it Works:
We facilitate the trip for you. All you have to do is get your group signed up using the brochures/applications that we give you. We take care of all the trip logistics. You tell us if you have any special needs or wants regarding the trip and we take care of it. We ask that if you are sending a group (the trip is open for individuals as well) and if you have any leadership from your church attend, that they lead or co-lead your team. There is team leader training 1 day prior to departure that will be held at a L.A. and Miami hotel (TBA). This will help to prepare & train the team leaders & co-leaders so they know what to expect on the trip. We would like to ask that any of your leadership that attends be open to speaking at one or two of the evening worship services that we have for the team.

If you would like to share this information with your congregation, we can send you a DVD or VHS presentation. Please let me know and I will gladly send a copy out to you as well as more brochures. The visual presentation will help to impart the heart of the mission and the practical aspects of the trip. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give me a call toll free at (877) 641-5100. Our web site is wvw.believersworld.com. Thank so much for your time. We look forward to hearing from you soon. God Bless your day!

2004 Costa Rica-BWO- Summer Missionary Testimonies/Quotes

  • It was a great first mission experience for my students. We saw life change in those we ministered to and in ourselves. Daniel Barrett — Youth Pastor, C.C. Lexington, SC.
  • What I enjoyed most about the trip was being able to minister to people just by performing a simple drama. It touched my heart to see how that simple thing blessed others. Amber Bondi - C.C. Yuma, AZ.
  • I enjoyed being used by God to bring salvation to others, learning to depend on God completely, meeting new people, and getting encouraged by them. I can’t wait to serve with BWO again and I can’t wait to see everybody again. I was changed and this trip will stay with me forever. Melissa Fambrough - C.C. East Anaheim, CA.
  • Thank you BWO! This was a life changing experience and perhaps the greatest 2 weeks of our lives! Annemarie Beltran, Marci Kobayashi, and Jackie Petty — Horizon North County, San Diego CA.
